JAN FRANKOWSKI (1912-1976) - Polish lawyer and publicist, Catholic activist, member of the Legislative Sejm and the Sejm of the Polish People's Republic. In 1952-1956 he belonged to the PAX Association. He left it after October 1956, leading the "secession" group and becoming one of the founders of the weekly ZA i PRZECIW. In the autumn of 1957, he subordinated the magazine's editorial board to himself, changing its political line, in agreement with the authorities, who were reluctant to the concept of a "non-partisan democratic left" promoted in the magazine. After these events, he formed the Christian Social Association, of which he was president for many years. He also served as editor-in-chief of the Association's organ FOR AND AGAINST, as well as the St. Mary's Hejnal magazine. In 1968, he was removed as president by members of the ChSS board who were dissatisfied with his management.
