Luxury pendant/brooch with the Polish patriotic eagle so called "Jagiellonian". Custom made, handcrafted circa 1880-1920 from palladium, gold and 96 old diamonds. One of a kind unique artifact made for an unknown important patron.
This type of eagle form has been popular in Poland since the period after the January Uprising of 1863/64 and was commonly worn until around 1918, when Poland regained its independence. The eagle refers to the historic Renaissance period eagle from the Sigismund Chapel at Wawel Castle designed by Bartholomew Berrecci. The widespread use of these eagles begins around 1870/80. Most pieces were cast or struck from an ingot in silver. This unique piece is an individual order in palladium and diamonds.
They were mainly made in Austrian-occupied Poland, including Krakow and Lviv. The level of workmanship of this piece and the materials suggests that it was made by an important workshop, probably in Krakow or Vienna. After extensive research, we can conclude that this is the most luxurious piece of Polish patriotic jewelry of the 19th/20th century, currently found in Polish museum and private collections.
Made of high quality palladium (0.980). With a later added pin made of 14K gold (0.585). The eagle is hand chiseled and engraved and has embedded 96 old cut diamonds weighing a total of about 0.60 carats. The piece comes with a jeweler's certificate.
An absolutely unique masterpiece worthy of the most discerning collection.
Overall condition as shown in the photos.
