Leopold Lewicki (1906–1973), painter, printmaker, and sculptor, a representative of the Polish interwar avant-garde. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków under, among others, Józef Mehoffer, Władysław Jarocki, and Fryderyk Pautsch, and later at the Academy’s branch in Paris. He was a co-founder of the first Kraków Group, with which he exhibited in the 1930s. In his work, he combined influences of Expressionism, Purism, and Cubism, often addressing social themes; printmaking, particularly etching, linocut, and woodcut, holds a special place in his body of work. From 1936 until his death, he was based in Lviv.
