mixed technique (charcoal, cardboard, tempera) on paper, 40 x 30 cm, signed l.g. 'M.Ch' and on the reverse 'Marek Chlanda | TANGO | 2012'.
The work most likely comes from the series "Chaji German's Documents," as evidenced by the iconographic motif of a pinion visible on the work. More information about the series can be found at the following link: https://marek-chlanda.com/bylismy/
Marek CHLANDA (b. 1954)
One of the most original and separate artists of the Polish contemporary scene, moving at the intersection of sculpture, drawing and installation. An artist with an intellectual profile, who in his practice rejects pure decorativeness in favor of exploring the relationship between the body, space and the memory of the object. His works-often of a crude, "poor" nature (using wax, lead, paper or wood)-are a record of a mental process in which sculpture becomes an extension of gesture and thought. Chlanda, a three-time participant in the São Paulo Biennale and Poland's representative at the Venice Biennale (1994, together with Roman Stanczak), has developed a unique visual language in which spatial forms are treated as "vessels" for metaphysical meanings. His work, represented in the collections of the Museum of Art in Lodz, the National Museum in Warsaw and in numerous foreign collections, is valued by collectors for its uncompromisingness, which is rare on the art market, and the deeply humanistic, existential dimension of each object.
