Stanislaw Yulianovich Zhukovsky [Joukowski, Jukovski, Schukowski, Zukovskii, Zhukovsky, Joukovsky] was born on May 13, 1873 in Jędrzychowice, Grodno region. Painter, graphic artist. He was one of the most prominent painters of landscapes of the late 19th century and the first thirty years of the 20th century.
In 1892 he entered the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture and studied under V. D. Polenov, I. I. Levitan, S. A. Korovin, N. A. Kasatkin and L O. Pasternak. He regularly participated in exhibitions of the Moscow Society of Art Lovers, also in exhibitions of the Society of Wandering Art Exhibitions (until 1918), and was a member of the society from 1903. In 1902-1903 Zhukovsky exhibited his works at exhibitions of the Mir Iskusstva ("World of Art") group. In 1903 he joined the Union of Russian Artists, and participated in the Union's exhibitions until 1923. Zhukovsky's landscapes immediately brought him fame. In 1909 and 1913 Zhukovsky received medals at the Munich International Art Exhibition. In 1923, Zhukovsky emigrated to Poland and lived in Warsaw and Krakow. In 1924-1925, Zhukovsky's works were exhibited at the Touring Exhibition of Russian Art in the USA and Canada, and in 1929 in Copenhagen. The artist held solo exhibitions at the Charpentier gallery in Paris in 1925, in 1929, 1931, 1934, 1935, 1937 and 1939 - in Warsaw, in 1929 - in Kharkiv. Stanislaw Zhukovsky died tragically in the concentration camp in Pruszkow, where he was taken after the suppression of the Warsaw Uprising.
He was buried in a common grave. His works are in many private and museum collections, including the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, the Kyiv Museum of Russian Art, the National Art Museum in Minsk, the National Museum in Warsaw, the National Gallery in Krakow and many others.
Many of his prints became the inspiration of fashion designers in Paris at the time.
