Emil LINDEMAN
1864 - 1945
He began his studies in painting at the Warsaw Drawing Class under Wojciech Gerson (until 1887), later (1888-1890) he studied at the Cracow School of Fine Arts under Jan Matejko; under his direction he also worked on the polychrome of St. Mary's Church. After that, he continued to study in Paris. For his painting of Castle Square, sent from there in 1893, he received the first prize in the Tygodnik Ilustrowany competition. He traveled to Naples, Rome and St. Petersburg. Since 1897 he lived permanently in Warsaw. He painted landscapes, genre scenes, seaside landscapes, flowers and still lifes. He designed posters and illustrated books and magazines. He was also involved in mural painting (including polychromy of the presbytery of the cathedral in Kielce) and restoration of old frescoes (including in the church of St. Theresa in Vilnius, St. Anne in Warsaw, in the White House in Lazienki Park).
