author unknown, Lviv school circle, linden wood, polychrome,
gilded, Dimensions: 52 x 18 x 26 cm
State of preservation: partial lack of right hand and fingers of left hand. Sculpture after conservation.
Figure from the collection of Henryk Bednarski (1907-1991), prominent Lviv collector and bibliophile, author of texts on art, architecture and archaeology, living in Krakow after the war. In the collector's catalog item no. 32 a (chapter "Sculpture").
Late Baroque full-figure figure of a plump angel with curly dark hair, with golden drapery on her hips. The figure is captured in flight, in a characteristic pose with legs bent and hands extended upwards. Originally, the putto most likely belonged to an elaborate altar decoration. The workmanship is noteworthy: free composition in a dynamic arrangement, excellent mastery of anatomy, delicacy of facial features and artful modeling of curls.
