An impressive and highly detailed turn-of-the-century silver covered goblet , showcasing the exceptional historicist craftsmanship for which the silversmiths of Hanau were globally renowned. Created in the grand Neo-Renaissance / Neo-Baroque manner, the goblet features a bulbous body elaborately decorated in high-relief repoussé and chased work. The central decorative scheme boasts finely detailed cartouches depicting a dynamic cavalry battle or equestrian procession, framed by lush floral garlands, scrollwork, and organic motifs.
The goblet stands on a complex, multi-tiered stem adorned with ornate knops and intricate openwork detailing, leading down to a wide, domed circular foot with matching chased repoussé decorations. The fitted, domed lid is beautifully surmounted by a cast finial in the form of a winged figure of Victory holding a ceremonial wreath. The interior of the bowl retains its rich, authentic gilding, adding a luxurious contrast to the exterior silver work.
