Zygmunt PAPIESKI (1852-1938)
In 1870-1874 he studied at the School of Fine Arts in Cracow under Jan Matejko. From 1875 he continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where, together with Leon Wyczółkowski and Maurice Gottlieb, he attended the Painting Techniques Class taught by Sándor Wagner. He mainly created realistic oil paintings - caricatured portraits, genre scenes of Krakow life and compositions of a humorous nature. Oriental motifs also appear in his work, particularly evident in some portraits. The artist is also the author of a color version of Jan Matejko's "Post of Polish Kings and Princes."
