Wilhelm WACHTEL

From 1895 to 1899 he studied at the Cracow School of Fine Arts under L.Loeffler and L.Wyczółkowski, and then at the Munich Academy under N.Gysis. He lived permanently in Lviv. He painted mainly scenes with Jewish themes - moody, lyrical portraits, genre paintings and compositions with biblical themes. He worked in oils and pastels, and was involved in printmaking. In 1935 he had a monographic exhibition at Warsaw's Zachęta Gallery, where he showed nearly 50 works. He died tragically in a car accident in the United States.
