An atmospheric landscape with a motif of the setting sun and vegetation shimmering in the reflection of water, this is an exceptionally decorative landscape composition by the painter. Ducks hovering over the floodplain enliven the forest scenery of the work. The composition's features hark back to the artist's second period, when he was keen on landscape subjects. Noteworthy is the work's grand format and richness of color nuances. The perfection of technique and realism of representation characteristic of the artist, gained recognition not only among collectors, but also in the art world, as evidenced by Gorstkin-Viviersky's collaborations in the creation of panoramas, and precisely in landscape parts (for example, "Crossing the Berezina" or "Battle of the Pyramids"). As befits an artist hailing from the Munich circle, his work also includes genre scenes, hunting or Cherokee figures, in which one can see the influence of the young painter's teachers - Jozef Brandt and Alfred Wierusz-Kowalski, among others.
