Gustav Carl Ludwig Richter (Berlin 1823–1884 Berlin)—German painter, a student of Eduard Holbein at the Berlin Academy of Arts, then of Léon Cogniet at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris (1844); he continued his studies in Rome (1847) and returned to Germany in 1849. He then painted decorative frescoes for the Neues Museum. In 1856, he created *The Raising of Jair’s Daughter* for Frederick William IV of Prussia, a painting that was met with great enthusiasm at the exhibition. In 1866, he married Cornelie Meyerbeer, the daughter of Giacomo Meyerbeer.
