St. Antony, the father of Christian monasticism, had retired to the desert of Egypt, where he fought against demons and temptations of the devil. In the present, charming Rococo picture, the saint fends off the attacking demons and the devil with a playful light movement of his fingers without turning away from reading the Holy Scriptures
