Folding postcard Map of Modern Europe 1914
Cовременная карта Европы 1914
The postcard depicts the situation of Europe at the beginning of World War I in a satirical way. In the center of the graphic is an allegory of Germany in the form of a large black spider with the face of Kaiser Wilhelm II with a distinctive curled mustache and a Prussian helmet with a spike. The spider is attacked with brooms by female personifications of various European countries. Each of the women is dressed in attire characteristic of the country. The largest of the figures, facing directly at the spider, is the personification of Russia in traditional Russian folk costume with an ornate kokoshnik.
