Walery Eljasz-Radzikowski was a Polish painter, illustrator and publicist, mainly associated with Krakow. He became famous as the author of numerous Tatra landscapes and illustrations for works on highland and historical subjects. He was an active popularizer of Podhale culture, collaborating with magazines dedicated to the Tatras. His works were characterized by attention to detail and a documentary approach to the scenes and costumes depicted. He is considered one of the most distinguished artists in shaping the image of Tatra culture in Polish art of the 19th century. The artist also created a series of images of Polish kings, usually done as illustrations for historical publications.
