Stanislaw KOCHANOWSKI

Polish painter and Roman philologist. Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow and Romance philology at the Jagiellonian University. He exhibited his works from 1897 to 1898 with TPSP in Cracow. In 1915 he enlisted in the Legions. After the restoration of independence, being a rittmeister, he took part in the battles for Lviv, where he later settled. He was a teacher at the State School of Economics and Commerce, and taught at the Academy of Foreign Trade. He painted landscapes, vedutas and genre scenes.
Chortkiv is now located in Ukraine in the Ternopil region. The painted horses according to the description belonged to the Armed Forces of the South of Russia, the white army commanded by Anton Denikin during the Russian Civil War.
