pastel, paper, 18 x 24 cm, signed p.d.: J. Stankiewicz
Born in 2003. From 2023 he is a student of Conservation and Restoration of Works of Art at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun. From 2019-2023, he attended the Complex of Schools and Artistic Facilities in Nysa.
In his free time, he is engaged in painting, drawing and arts and crafts. He is interested in history, especially the Middle Ages and the early modern era. These interests are reflected in his work - he is especially close to 19th-century history painting and the works of medieval masters of panel painting. He tries to develop these inspirations both in paintings and drawings and, more often, in conceptual sketches in preparation for future realizations.
In addition to historical subjects, he also creates landscapes, less frequently still lifes and portraits. In the area of handicrafts, he enjoys combining different techniques and concepts in a single object - among other things, he decorates caskets and makes ornamental decorations for wooden Easter eggs, often using elements of gilding.
In painting, he primarily uses the oil technique, using colored underpainting of the ground to avoid the influence of the white of the ground on the final color of the work. He values delicacy, sensitivity and a moderate painting gesture, although he also creates refined studio works. In drawing, he likes to use "dry" techniques - charcoal, pastels and sepia - preferring tinted paper with earthy tones. In more detailed works, he also uses sanguine, sepia, charcoal in pencil and black thin pen.
