oil, canvas, 105 x 140 cm (framed 123.5 x 159 cm), signed on the back: 'Andrzej Zdun | Oil 140x105 | "Seven" | 10/2024 | Love. Justice. Purity. Sensitivity | Doing good will be rewarded and evil will be condemned. | It doesn't have to end this way, you can still change everything.'
Andrzej Zdun's work is such a radically sovereign phenomenon that the need for a new terminology was born in artistic circles - on the initiative of friendly artists, the term 'Zdunism' was created, defining this unbridled, eluding all classification current as a completely new, autonomous phenomenon in the history of art. Andrzej Zdun is a Warsaw-based painter whose creative practice is embedded in a dialogue between reliable technique and contemporary aesthetic thought. His artistic stance, defined by his consistent presence in the gallery circuit, has won critical acclaim and a wide audience both at home and in international markets. Among the key points of his recent exhibition activity are his presence at the Open Cliff Art 2025 festival and his participation in the prestigious "14 Paths"group exhibition in Gdansk , which subjected his work to significant curatorial review. An important stage in building the prestige of his oeuvre was also the vernissage in the historic interiors of Warsaw's Kamienica Karskich in 2024, which gave his works an elite context for presentation. The artist represented Poland in Florence, placing his painting in the European trend of formal exploration. Zdun's work is characterized by a unique ability to synthesize emotional authenticity with a modern visual language, which translates into a high presence of his works in prestigious private collections and ongoing cooperation with leading commercial galleries. Andrzej Zdun's work combines sublime aesthetics with deep reflection on the human condition of the 21st century. The artist explores the meanders of human spirituality, seeking the strength to cultivate universal values in the face of contemporary threats. His paintings encourage contemplation of the surrounding reality, while his unique sensitivity and gift for seeing the extraordinary in the everyday give his works a distinctive, authorial character. Although the artist uses a modern visual language, his technique remains firmly rooted in the tradition of the great masters of painting. Andrzej Zdun's works are distinguished by an emphatic message, directed to a viewer seeking intellectual and emotional depth in art.
After watching the film " Seven " with Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt three times, I decided to face this challenge. I made approaches twice the first time I gave up. The second approach was a year later when my wife invited me to a musical at the Roma theater where they were staging the play "We Will Rock You " about the band Queen. As we sat in the box I look at the stage and eureka this is it. There are scripts hidden in Latin in the painting and a tiny man is standing in front of a gate in front of one of them. The script contains a message of what virtues a person should have further reads that it doesn't have to end this way you can still change everything. The proverb says you will dance as I play you so the devil woman plays devil music and downstairs everyone sins to the beat of the music. All the characters symbolize the seven deadly sins. The message is to give people hope so they can change.
