Lot description
A rare mechanical music box made by the renowned Czech maker Gustav Rzebitschek in Prague around 1850. Model 2091 is equipped with a precision cylinder mechanism that plays two tunes, including the famous Radecký March by Johann Strauss the Elder.The box is made of wood. The lid is decorated with a hand-painted floral motif. The mechanism includes a cylindrical drum with finely tuned metal slats that produce a clear and clean sound. The side key mechanism allows the music to be wound and started.
Gustav Rzebitschek was an important maker of musical instruments active in the mid-19th century, whose products are now sought after by collectors around the world.
