Piotr Smogór - born in 1975 in Ząbkowice Śląskie. Graduated from the E. Geppert State Artistic Center in Wroclaw and philosophy at UWr, specializing in the phenomenology of pictorial space. He most preferably uses oil painting, although his area of interest also includes plein-air sketching, monotype, film miniature, graphic design and essay.
He paints mainly figurative compositions, sometimes plays with the image as a transformation made with the use of common digital means: computer, mobile devices, etc. For the purpose of his painting, he created the term figurative landscape, which is the canvass of the message and objectification of man in the surrounding reality, which he writes about in his literary sketches. In the author's works there is an intermingling of planes and time layers of perception, which thus show the history of the condition of modern man, not forgetting the corporeality and limitations of his nature and aberration as a transgression of the cultural pattern. Therefore, the reality of block housing, slums, and the associated aggression of the message, which unites form with content, sometimes enters the works. Thematically, it oscillates between socially engaged art and expression framed by memories, understatements and imagery. Engagement takes the form of remaining in correspondence with the here-and-now and thus with actions becoming patterns of social behavior, using new media of information influx, facts latent and being an undeniable attribute of being.
This work is an illustration of the austere architecture of the Bauhaus, whose main premise is functionalism and adaptation to human needs; its combination with a naked human figure is meant to emphasize this fact, and the intermingling of the figure with the background of trees suggests another component of human nature, i.e. nature.
He has participated in many group exhibitions, including two editions of the WPA International Art Festival and the OSTEN Biennial of Drawing in Skopje. Individual exhibitions at home and abroad: Unknown Stories (2010), Moment (2012), body_2 (2013), projections (2014), figurative_landscape (2016), inhabitant affairs (collage), figures (2017), art and wine (2018), from-HUMANS (2019), thin_line (2020, ol-line exhibition).
Still looking.
