Bronze issue of Tarsus in Cilicia, dated to approximately 167–27 BC, belongs to the Late Hellenistic period, when the city functioned as one of the principal centers of the region following the decline of Seleucid power and during the growing influence of Rome in Asia Minor.
Tarsus, one of the most important cities of Cilicia, is widely attested in ancient sources, including Strabo, as a significant administrative, commercial, and religious center. Its minting activity in the Hellenistic and early Roman periods is well documented in numismatic scholarship.
