Biography
Painter, printmaker, and more recently, a video artist. From 1993 to 1995, he studied at the Faculty of Architecture at the Kraków University of Technology, and then from 1995 to 2000 at the Faculty of Graphic Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. From 1994 to 2001, he was active in the Ładnie Group, and from 1998 to 2001 he ran the Open Gallery in Kraków, where he exhibited, among other things, posters depicting everyday objects in a style reminiscent of supermarket product advertisements, though these items were impossible to purchase. He is interested in the intrusion of art into public space, as well as issues related to the commercialization of art and the stripping of art of any value other than its material worth. He documents the transformation of a work of art into an advertisement or an object. His preferred method is to reproduce an object using a different technique (oil painting, linocuts). He attempts to strip his art of individuality. The paintings he creates resemble, for example, bricks or planks, yet they can also be interpreted as examples of abstract or conceptual painting. The artist initially sold them at the actual price of the “commodity” they depicted. He also engages in artistic actions involving the repainting of gallery facades.
