The lead work of the auction is a painting by Krzesława Maliszewska-Mazurkiewicz, depicting a female nude on an oval board and framed in a gold ornate frame. The painting impresses with its pastel colors and composition, which, despite its apparent static nature, has been broken by a two-frame shot, giving the work depth. The nude is full of understatement and subtlety. It was painted in 1990 and given to a neighbor at the time, adding to her private collection. Now - after more than 30 years it has found its way to an art auction in her native Wroclaw.
She graduated from the Wroclaw State High School of Fine Arts and the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Wroclaw (1947-1952), where she studied under Prof. Eugeniusz Geppert. During her studies, she met her later husband Alfons Mazurkiewicz, with whom, along with Jozef Halas and Malgorzata Grabowska, they co-founded the artistic Group X (1956-1961). From 1962 she was also a member of the Wroclaw Group. The painting studio of Mr. and Mrs. Mazurkiewicz was located at the Wrocław Market Square. In addition, she worked as an educator, teaching at the State High School of Fine Arts from 1959-1978. She was a member of the Association of Polish Artists and Designers, and was also a recipient of the Silesian Cultural Award.
