Representations of saints constituted an important range of sacred themes undertaken by Nowosielski. Referring to the basic rules of icon painting, he enriched them with his own concepts. Typical for them is economy of means, freedom in the choice of painting material or poeticism of representation. The artist did not apply a categorical division of painting into secular and religious. In his view, these two spheres interpenetrated each other. In Nowosielski's works one can see references to the traditional school of icon painting, but enriched by a modern view of art.
