"The vast majority of Lithuanian artists were wary of avant-garde manifestations of art, art phenomena that did not exist in pre-war Lithuania. Only a few younger Lithuanian artists, who in the 1960s and 1970s had the opportunity to study for a longer or shorter period of time in art schools around the world, took the exposure to Western trends as natural and managed to manifest themselves as artistic individuals in the ruthlessly competitive field of American art. Elena Urbaitytė-Urbaitis, Kęstutis Zapkus [...etc.], Kazimieras Žoromskis created impressive abstractions in painting [...]. In the 1970s and 1990s, they were invited to exhibit at international galleries in the USA and Western Europe, participated in prestigious exhibitions and were recognised in their artistic circles. It is they, the generation that came of age in the post-war Western world, who are the strongest Lithuanian émigré artists, authentically in touch with the principles of late modernism."
