Benon LIBERSKI

GIRLS WITH A PARROT
Oil on canvas; 147 x 114 cm
Benon Liberski’s monumental composition belongs to a characteristic strand of his figurative work, in which nude motifs intertwine with symbolism and decorative elements. In the foreground, the artist depicts two nude women set against a dense, almost ornamental forest scene. One of the figures, facing the viewer head-on, holds a red ara—an exotic bird that has long been a symbol of sensuality, beauty, and freedom—on her shoulder. The other woman, depicted in profile, serves as a formal and psychological counterpoint to her.
The painting draws attention with its expressive, dark contours, the synthesis of forms, and the subtle modeling of the figures’ bodies. Liberski’s characteristic linearity lends the composition a decorative rhythm, evoking associations with the aesthetics of Art Nouveau and Modernism, while the warm, saturated color palette creates an atmosphere of mystery and timelessness. The exotic macaw, a vivid red against a background of subdued greens and pinks, becomes the main color accent and the symbolic center of the composition.
Benon Liberski’s work is characterized by his ability to combine a classical study of the human body with the poetics of the imagination. The presented work fits into his recognizable painterly language, in which the nude does not serve solely as a realistic depiction but becomes a vehicle for metaphorical content—a narrative about femininity, nature, and humanity’s primal harmony with the surrounding world.
The monumental format and high level of artistic execution make this painting one of the artist’s most striking works, representing a mature stage in his career.
