"Space of Nonexistence" represents an important contribution to Czech abstract art of the 20th century. As a painter associated with the post-war avant-garde, Piesen often explored the metaphysical dimensions of existence through abstract forms and textures. In this work, he focuses on the concept of "non-existence" by creating a surface that oscillates between materiality and immateriality. The densely textured surface of the painting, with its dark, almost monochromatic palette, evokes a sense of depth and infinity, which encourages the viewer to contemplate the void or space beyond the boundary of tangible reality. The use of color and texture in this work is typical of Piesen's technique, where the process of creation becomes a meditation on the essence of existence itself. Space of Nonexistence is a powerful example of how Piesen's work transcends the purely visual and engages with deep philosophical questions, making it a valuable work both in the context of his work and the broader framework of abstract art.
