This ashtray was made to furnish the transatlantic liner MS “Batory,” one of the most prestigious ships in the Polish passenger fleet of the interwar period. An anchor motif—a universal symbol of seafaring and maritime tradition—is featured in the center. The rim features an enameled monogram of the shipowner, Gdynia–America Line (GAL), and an inscription with the ship’s name. The combination of these elements emphasized the company’s visual identity and the high standard of its vessels’ furnishings. The ashtray is an example of an everyday object that, thanks to its careful design, also served a representative function, enhancing the prestige of Polish ocean shipping and the recognition of the GAL brand.
