Franciszek KRUDOWSKI
1860 Kraków - 1945 Kraków
Studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts under Griepenkerl and Wurzinger from 1875 to 1880. Awarded numerous prizes, he went to Rome for further studies, where he stayed until 1893. After leaving Rome, he traveled extensively, and from 1900 settled permanently in Krakow. He painted primarily religious paintings, as well as portraits and mythological paintings. He repeatedly participated in exhibitions of the Warsaw Zachęta Gallery and the Cracow Society of Friends of Fine Arts.
Krudowski portrayed Modrzejewska on several occasions. Inferring from the costume, Modjeska may have been depicted in the stage costume of Rosalind from Shakespeare's "As You Like It". At the same time, it could be a study for a painting with a sacred theme. A similar pencil sketch was offered at the 65th Ostoya auction (item 53)
