The author of the work 'Military Architecture - New and Increased' is A. Freitag (1608-1650), a military engineer, expert on bastion castles, and physician, who taught at the school in Kėdainiai. In this book, the author examined the latest type of defensive castles in Europe - Dutch bastion fortresses, which became popular in Europe in the mid-17th century and were built up to the 19th century. He discussed the methods of construction and design of such fortresses, drawing on the best achievements of Western European military construction, and also explained the importance of the choice of sites for construction, and the possibilities of adapting old towns to new military fortifications.
