99. DIURNALE AMBIANIENSE (...).
Amiens 1749, Carol Caron-Hubault, 16 k. +292 p. + 1 k. +CCXX p. +12 p. +6 s.
A beautifully bound Breviary of the Diocese of Amiens for the year 1749, published at the behest of the local bishop, Louis-François-Gabriel d'Orléans de La Motte (1683-1774) The Liturgy of the Hours, or "Officium Divinum," is a book containing texts that is sometimes called a breviary. Sometimes the term "liturgy of the hours" itself is sometimes replaced by the phrase "breviary prayer," but this is a common name. The obligation to celebrate the liturgy of the hours in its entirety (or in the relevant part) is for those who have been ordained or have taken perpetual vows. The rest of the faithful are not required to celebrate it, but they have the right to do so and it is strongly recommended. It serves as a "supplement" to the Mass for all hours of the day. The Breviary contains the Gospels, readings, Psalms and passages from the Old Testament for the period of the calendar year. In addition to the texts of the Bible, prayers, meditations and commentaries on the texts. In addition, the work separately contains prayers and recollections of saints. At the beginning is a calendar of movable feasts from 1748 to 1777, and a calendar for 1749. At the end is a collection of notes for Psalms and canticles, and a devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Text in Latin.
