A very interesting eagle made according to the 1919 pattern regulations with the numbers of regiment 51 also stamped with a deep countermark as the designation of the 51st Border Rifle Infantry Regiment from Brzeżany.
According to the uniform regulations of 1919, a unit's distinguishing mark or service initial was to be placed on the pellet. From the surviving photos, it appears that in part this was actually done. Such eagles were worn until the 1930s.
Such eagles are known today in a few pieces, occasionally appearing on the auction market.
The present eagle belongs to a unique type. According to T. Zawistowski, each eagle with a given regimental numeral within a unit was made from a single die. The same author presented eagles with different regimental numerals, but not the 51st.
A very rare item, definitely worth recommending to the best collections.
Description: eagle with wings raised, head heraldically to the right, surmounted by a crown, sitting on an amazon shield with 21 nails nailed on the lower trail, on the pellet the numerals 51.
