Jaroslav Horejc (1886 - 1983)- Standing Female Nude

Bronze

This impressive and elegant work is a quintessential example of the mature style of Jaroslav Horejc, one of the most significant figures in 20th-century Czech sculpture. A leading proponent of the Art Deco movement in Prague, Horejc is celebrated for his unique ability to fuse Neoclassical idealism with stylized decorative refinement.
Measuring 64 cm, this is a monumental-scale bronze for Horejc, immediately commanding attention. The figure is defined by its verticality and graceful, elongated proportions. The pose is introspective, with the arms delicately framing the face—a gesture that evokes both fragility and inner strength.
The idealized facial features and the highly structured, wavy coiffure are hallmarks of Horejc’s style. His background in exquisite glass and decorative arts is evident in the precise, decorative treatment of the hair, fingers, and the subtle contours of the torso. The bronze possesses a rich, deep patina that expertly catches and diffuses light, accentuating the subtle musculature of the back and the fluid curves of the profile.
Jaroslav Horejc is considered a master of interwar European elegance. His large-scale works (over 60 cm) are highly sought after in the international market, particularly by collectors of Prague Art Deco and those interested in the transition from classical sculpture to modernist abstraction. This piece represents a significant investment, showcasing a moment of refined, pan-European aesthetic.
