Color lithograph, Arjomari veline paper; 9 x 46 cm in light passe - partout size.
23 x 61 cm; inscribed and signed at the bottom "Marcelle Raoul Dufy 1946".
Dufy made this composition for his friend Marcelle Oury.
Marcelle OURY (1894-1980) - journalist and art critic, friend of Dufy.
The lithograph is from a portfolio published by Libraire Academique Perrin in Paris titled "Homage to
Raoul Dufy" and made by Atelier Mourlot.
Dufy was fascinated by public scenes, celebrations, and the social life of the elite, but also by life in the
ports and at sea.
Dufy's paintings always exude light and joy. Even official scenes are
depicted with a certain carefree and optimism. His works are dominated by bright,
saturated colors-the blue of the sky and sea, the white of sails, the red and gold of flags. Dufy was a master of
lines. The outlines of figures, ships and details are drawn quickly and confidently, but with lightness. The line
often does not close the form perfectly, and color can "go out" beyond it, which creates an impression of
of spontaneity and dynamism. Dufy used to say this about painting: "the viewer, as soon as he stands in front of the
painting, he opens his mouth before he even opens his eyes."
