Joan Miró studied concurrently at the School of Commerce and the Llotja School of Fine and Applied Arts
Barcelona (1907-1910). He began working in a store, but the result of being forced into an unloved occupation was illness. During his convalescence, he decided to devote himself exclusively to art and enrolled in the school of Francesco Galí, where he studied from 1912-1915. In 1917 he met Francis Picabia,
in 1920 he went to Paris and stayed there until 1925. from 1923 he revolved around the Surrealists,
In 1925 he met André Breton. That year he had his first solo exhibition at Galerie Pierre in Paris. In 1926, together with Max Ernst, he designed costumes and sets for Diaghilev's Russian Ballets. From 1930 he exhibited in the United States, from 1934 represented by Pierre Matisse, with whom he made a contract. He lived alternately in Paris and the Montroig estate in Catalonia, but in 1936, as a result of the Spanish Civil War, he and his family moved permanently to France, where he stayed until 1940.
