Zofia Elżbieta Fijałkowska (Warsaw, 1909–1989) – a Polish printmaker and painter active in Warsaw. From 1927 to 1938, she studied at the School of Fine Arts in Warsaw under Władysław Skoczylas, Edmund Bartłomiejczyk, and Stanisław Ostoi-Chrostowski. Zofia Fijałkowska made her debut in 1936 at the 2nd International Woodcut Exhibition in Warsaw, where she received an honorable mention. From 1936 to 1939, she was a member of the “Czerń i Biel” group of printmakers. During this period, she focused primarily on woodcut. In 1937–1938, she created a series of woodcuts with mountain themes. In the second half of the 1930s, the artist’s favorite subjects included landscapes: park avenues, forest clearings, and mountain views. In addition to woodcuts, she designed greeting cards and illustrations, created bookplates, and worked in commercial art—illustrating children’s books. After 1945, she abandoned printmaking in favor of drawing, illustrative painting, and applied design. She was a member of the Professional Visual Artists’ Bloc and the Union of Polish Graphic Artists.
