Wacław Wantuch—photographer, writer, painter, sculptor. One of Poland’s most outstanding nude photographers. His trademark is his surprising compositions, as well as his masterful use of light on the photographed model.
After graduating from the sculpture department at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, he traded his chisel for a lens, turning to photography.
For Wantuch, 2016 marked the end of his photographic career. The artist returns to the roots of oil painting. He personally prepares chalk-and-glue grounds that have been tried and tested since the Middle Ages. He mixes his own paints according to the recipes of the Flemish school and the Venetian old masters of glazing.
The artist’s works celebrate the female form. For him, the curves and contours of the female nude are a source of fascination and constant inspiration, which he channels into a passion for drawing and painting.
He creates in his studio in the countryside near Kraków. His works are found in private collections, as well as at the National Museum in Wrocław, the Museum of the History of Photography in Kraków, and the Museum of Opole Silesia in Opole. He has held over seventy solo photography exhibitions. Four albums featuring the artist’s photographs have been published.
