CLOUD XL
Literature
"CLOUD by Mark Bimera takes on a bodily and organic dimension in my intervention. Its smooth, translucent surface has been accentuated with accents reminiscent of condensation - as if the object were leaking, living its own rhythm, balancing between solid and liquid states. This subtle treatment evokes associations with breasts and opens up a dialogue with my earlier project Mamma.
Mamma is a sculpture that refers to the universal corporeality of mammals. It alludes to the figures of the Mother Goddess and pre-mothers, combining intimacy with a belief in the power of life-sustaining matter. In CLOUD, these themes recur in a different, more ephemeral form. The object becomes a hybrid of cloud and body. The liquefied surface evokes the memory of moisture, nourishment, flow - the elements that connect water and milk."
Ida Karkoszka
Biography
She grew up in an artistic environment, but her early interests focused on the natural sciences. She saw herself not so much in art, but in veterinary medicine or surgery - professions that make a real difference in saving lives. Although she eventually graduated from the Department of Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in the studio of Prof. Antoni Janusz Pastwa, as well as an appendix in medallions with Prof. Hanna Jelonek, her original intuitions shaped her later artistic choices, influenced the fleshy, life-affirming subject matter of her works and defined the way she perceived her role and tasks in the world - as a public speaker, fighting injustice and striving through art to change destructive attitudes and practices. Karkoszka's works have been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw and the Center for Polish Sculpture in Oronsko, among others. The artist has participated in group exhibitions at Studio Cannaregio in Venice and the Mark Rothko Center in Dyneburg. Her works are in the collection of the British Museum and in private collections.
