Arturas Valiauga (born 1967)
Photography from the series "From a woman's diary"
1995, paper, silver print, 99 × 72
Sign. AD Signature/ 95
The series From a Woman's Diary (1994-1995) was awarded the main prize (Silver Nugget) at the Kodak European Panorama in Arles (France). The artist, who has been exhibiting since 1993, has consistently explored the theme of social and national identity in his photographic projects, capturing the processes and results of its change, and analysing the concept of the home in its broadest sense and its expressions through the image. The history of Lithuania, the Soviet and post-Soviet experience are the most important motifs in Valiauga's work: in his works, which are characterised by a sense of colour and time, modernity is captured with an open, critical gaze.
With more than 30 solo exhibitions and more than 50 collective exhibitions, Valiauga has received significant awards in Lithuania and worldwide.
