German landscape painter. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Königsberg under A. Behrendsen. After his studies, he traveled to Italy and Switzerland and traveled along the banks of the Rhine, painting landscapes of the areas he visited. From 1868 to 1892 he was a professor of the landscape class at the School of Drawing in Berlin. He is best known as the creator of beautiful, atmospheric landscapes from East Prussia, the area around Danzig and Königsberg. Saturated with subtle light, clean in drawing and maintained in subdued colors, these paintings bear witness to the artist's talent.
