Pauillac, 5ème cru classé
Comments
If the 1855 classification were repeated today, Chateau Pontet-Canet would probably be at least in second class. This is one of the most dynamic and exciting estates in Bordeaux.
It has been owned by the Tesseron family since 1975. It is run biodynamically, which is by no means driven by business motives, but by a genuine belief in the high quality of the fruit from such crops. Winemaking is equally attentive and conscious; traditional practices meet in the middle, as well as extremely modern ones, allowing for high precision. One of the most important Super Seconds.
2014 is a rather challenging vintage for winemakers, with a rainy spring and cool summer. It was shaped and styled by a beautiful, sunny and long brightness. Thanks to this, the wines do not lack freshness and energy, which is nicely smoothed out by sweetness and maturity in the case of the best producers.
Pontet-Canet 2014 is 65% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot and 5% petit verdot. A full-bodied, expressive wine with great concentration and tremendous potential for maturation. Cassis, cigar box, smoke, exotic spices. Nicely delineated tannins and a long finish. Keep in mind that the fruit comes from biodynamic cultivation!
